A brief explanation of the various Tree sizes that are available.

All varieties of trees come in various stages of growth. The size of tree determines the price of the tree. Also the time of year can greatly affect the cost of trees. Nowadays trees are available throughout the year. However from November to early April they are available as ‘bare root’ or ‘root balls’. All trees are ‘containerised’ for the other months of the year. Outlined below are the main criteria of each group:

Bare Root & Root Ball

  • Available from November – Early April

  • Sizes are generally much cheaper than containerised Trees.

  • Watering of trees is not a problem due to rainfall, although it is recommended to water after planting.

  • Trees will be better established for the following growing season.

  • Many more sizes available.

  • Most hedging plants available also as ‘bare root’.

    Containerised Trees

  • Planting season continues throughout the year.

  • Very dependent on watering, especially in growing season.

  • Considerably more expensive than ‘bare root’

  • Instant effect as trees can be in leaf when planted.
